Jackie Meltz Biography

Jackie Meltz, PhD, LCSW

Dr. Jackie Meltz is a distinguished Scholar-Practitioner with a career dedicated to the study and treatment of profound human trauma. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and PsyD, she brings a rare combination of rigorous academic insight and hands-on clinical expertise to her leadership. Her background includes serving as an educator at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where she taught students Psychology and Social Work, shaping the next generation of mental health professionals.

A Life Defined by Resilience

"I’ve been a social worker and trauma psychotherapist for many years," says Dr. Meltz. "Since a young age, I’ve felt a calling to work with refugees and those in war-torn countries who experience horrific trauma that most don’t ever experience in their lifetime."

This calling is rooted in her own history of overcoming significant hardship. Having moved from a place of survival to one of thriving, she views her work not just as a profession, but as a way to honor the support and guidance she received on her own path. This personal journey informs her belief that even in the face of poverty, political oppression, and abuse, the choice to live is a choice that opens the heart to deeper connections and love.

Visionary Leadership at Seed of Kindness

As Chairperson, Dr. Meltz applies her clinical lens to the organization’s mission in Afghanistan. She understands that for widows and orphans to truly recover, they need more than just resources—they need a pathway to reclaim their strength and resilience.

Under her guidance, Seed of Kindness integrates trauma-informed care into every phase of its outreach:

  • Emergency Relief: Providing a safety net for those fleeing war and oppression.

  • Self-Sufficiency: Empowering individuals to transition from survival to stability.

  • Advocacy: Utilizing her platform as an educator and clinician to promote non-violence and loving-kindness on a global scale

"To flee poverty, war, and various forms of abuse and find a way to both stay alive and still hold onto hope takes tremendous strength. That resilience is what we honor and support at Seed of Kindness.”
